This is the fourth case of monkeypox virus infection in India. However, this is the first infected person without travel history. Earlier, the three men had returned from a trip abroad.


The first case of monkeypox has been reported in Delhi. The health ministry confirmed that one patient was admitted to Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi. The man is 31 years old. The man had a high fever followed by a rash. Importantly, the man had not traveled abroad.


The man, a resident of West Delhi, was admitted to Maulana Azad Medical College Hospital about three days ago after showing symptoms of monkeypox. According to sources, the man's sample was sent to NIV Pune on Saturday and the infection was confirmed.
